murasaki99 how Sith Lords might acquire their apprentices. This drabble is condensed from an old fragment I found on my hard drive.

“You think we should take the boy with us.”
“His potential is too great to waste it. Or to risk that another becomes aware of him.”
“That's of course true. And I believe that Anakin would make a good apprentice.”
Obi-Wan stiffened, then forced himself to relax. Maybe it was a test. And if Qui-Gon wanted to replace him he couldn't do anything at all. “Then I will speak with Watto about the boy and his mother.”
“What interests me Shmi? I have already purchased Anakin. However, if he wins the race I will take his mother too.”
